Can the Beverages You Drink Interact With Your Blood Thinner?

!±8± Can the Beverages You Drink Interact With Your Blood Thinner?

Warfarin and its counterparts are commonly prescribed prescription medications today. Warfarin is a blood thinner, and is used primarily to prevent blood clots in patients with cardiovascular disease, or who are otherwise at a higher than average risk of stroke or heart attack.

Warfarin prevents clots from forming or from growing larger by stopping the formation of substances that cause clots. Because warfarin thins your blood, it's important to stop taking it before any surgical procedures. Check with your doctor regarding his recommendations before your surgery.

Warfarin's side effects include

o headache

o upset stomach

o diarrhea

o fever

o skin rash

Recently, there has been discussion that some beverages may inhibit the blood thinning properties of warfarin. The beverages in question include cranberry juice, grape juice and tea. The theory was that the beverages inhibited the human enzyme upon which warfarin works to prevent the formation of clots. This led patients to wonder if it was safe to consume these beverages while taking warfarin and similar drugs. Similar concerns were raised for patients who might be taking an anti-fungal such as fluconazole; the drug commonly prescribed to treat yeast infections.

A study was conducted to measure the effects of these three beverages on the effectiveness of warfarin. To conduct the study, researchers performed experiments both in vitro and on human participants, using flurbiprofen, a common anti-inflammatory drug. The flurbiprofen mimics warfarin's action in the body, so it was thought to be a safer alternative for the participants.

The human participants were given grape juice, cranberry juice, brewed tea, or a placebo cranberry juice for control. The patients were also given either flurbiprofen to determine any interactions. In addition, the patients were given fluconazole along with flubiprofen to study its possible interaction, too.

The study used 14 healthy volunteers and studied them weekly over a 5 week period. At each visit, the volunteer would receive a different combination, so that each combination could be compared on each participant.

In addition to using human participants, researchers also studied the reactions created by these various combinations in the lab. Under these conditions, scientists can more closely monitor exactly how the substances might affect each other.

The studies concluded that the beverages in question did not inhibit the effectiveness of warfarin in terms of its ability to thin the blood in the human studies. However, the in vitro trials showed a slight inhibition when the flurbiprofen was combined with tea or grape juice -but this finding was not replicated in the human studies.

What the studies did find, however, was that fluconazole did appear to inhibit the effectiveness of warfarin in both human trials and in vitro tests.

So, this study concluded that those who drink juices and tea need not worry that their beverages will interfere with the drug's ability to do its job. You should speak to your doctor, however, if you are prescribed fluconazole while taking warfarin, as the interaction may cause warfarin to be less effective.
But, you can feel safe drinking your usual beverages without fear that you'll have an interaction. And, in fact, if your beverage of choice is green tea, you may actually be working your way out of taking that warfarin in the future.

Green tea's potent anti-oxidants have been shown to help improve blood pressure and lower cholesterol. An improvement in blood pressure and cholesterol can mean a significant improvement in any cardiovascular disease that you might have.

Abnormally high blood pressure puts pressure on the arterial walls, which often causes them to have little nicks. Blood clots are formed as your body attempts to repair these little nicks. But, if the blood clots grow too large or break off, they can block an artery to the heart, causing a heart attack. Or, if they block an artery that supplies the brain, they can cause a stroke.

Warfarin is prescribed to help prevent these clots from forming, but if blood pressure and cholesterol are lowered naturally, the need for a blood thinner can sometimes be eliminated. Of course, you should never discontinue any medication without consulting your doctor, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to manage your blood pressure naturally?

In general, adding green tea to your diet is a healthy idea. It has been shown in study after study to help prevent premature aging and a whole host of diseases, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and some cancers. It may also help you keep your weight under control, which also helps keep you healthy and strong.

Try adding two to three cups of green tea per day to your diet to start seeing the healthy benefits. You'll find green tea available in a wide variety of flavors, in both loose form and tea bag form. You can drink it hot or iced - and add milk if you wish. Any way you drink it, you can be sure you're doing something healthy - and that won't interfere with medications you're already taking.

How to Lose Weight? Eat Less Food!

!±8± How to Lose Weight? Eat Less Food!

How to lose weight? Eat less food.

That's pretty simple and straightforward.

Eat a good salad every day (good means big and lots of green and fresh vegetables) and eat way less food.

Do two meal replacements each day, for breakfast and lunch, substituting highly nutritious "energy bars" for these meals. I buy the "Greens" Chocolate Energy bars at Trader Joe's. They contain blue-green algae, organic wheat grass, organic barley grass - superfoods - good stuff. There are other good quality energy bars out there too, but don't be fooled by "energy bars" that are just "junk food" in disguise. Read the label and use your head.

And, I eat way less food at my evening meal - one plate of food. Balanced. Protein, veggies, no bread. Well, once a week we have pasta with meatballs and I have a piece of seeded (& toasted) french bread. But I only eat one plate of food and I keep it balanced.

To lose weight you have to eat less food. Live with it.

I take a packet of vitamins and minerals each day. If you're eating less food, you need nutritional support. Find and buy a reputable brand of vitamins and minerals and take some every day.

Don't eat so much.

I drink several cups of herbal tea throughout the day. One teabag of Starbuck's Vanilla Rooibos plus one teabag of Trader Joe's Ruby Red Chai - the Ruby Red contains ginger root. And I add a pinch of ground cayenne pepper and two shakes of cinnamon and five drops of stevia.

With my reduced calorie intake, the tea keeps me going all day.

Don't go nuts with this exercise stuff, especially if you've cut your calories down substantially. Stretch. Take a walk. Keep things sane.

Keep your mouth closed.

I read a story a year or so ago about a couple who purchased a house that was in a farming community and was built, oh - maybe 80 years ago - in the 1930's. When they were moving in and unpacking and tried to put their dinner plates into a cupboard, they were surprised to discover that they didn't fit.

Remember, farmers ate rather large portions of food and worked from sun-up to sun-down, every day. They needed lots of calories and good nutrition to keep them fueled and going throughout the day.

Yet, here we are, with plates designed for even larger portions than farmers were served. So much so that these modern, over-sized plates wouldn't even fit into a farmer's cupboard!

Is this nuts or what?

Close your trap.

We've all been sold a bill of goods by grocery and restaurant advertisements over the years that have convinced us that we need to eat larger and larger portions of food to be healthy.

Nuts!

Don't stuff yourself.

Your body is too busy supplying nutrients to its extra 50 to 100 pounds of body weight that your vital organs, such as your heart, liver, etc., get short-changed, nutritionally speaking.

You need to be at your ideal weight. You need to eat less food.

You want the fountain of youth? Be at your ideal weight. Eat less food.

You want better health? Be at your ideal weight. Eat less food.

Did I mention that you need to eat less food?

Consume...

...fewer...

...food items that travel into your digestive portal!

If you're serious about retaining your ideal weight, extending your life, feeling better, looking sharp in your clothes, etc., then you'll have to tell your body to expect less food. Don't forget who's in charge of your body. You are!

Before beginning any diet or weight loss program, no matter which, consult with your doctor. But don't let him prescribe any harmful psychiatric drugs or diet pills loaded with stimulants.

Use your head. There are safe and sane herbal remedies out there that you just may learn about if you keep your eyes open!

Cho Yung Tea Review - Does Cho Yung Tea Really Work?

!±8± Cho Yung Tea Review - Does Cho Yung Tea Really Work?

After hearing about this new weight loss tea that's being talked about constantly on the internet, I had to find out if it actually worked to help get rid of the pounds. The name of the product is Cho Yung Tea, and the manufacturers claim that by drinking at least one cup of this tea per day, you should see dramatic weight loss results in under one month. I had to find out if this was real, so I decided to give it a try, and here's my report...

I was surprised that it only took two days before I received Cho Yung Tea in the mail. I've had bad experiences in the past with ordering products online and so naturally I expected it to take awhile before I'd receive the product. Luckily this wasn't the case. I was eager to get started, so I began my regimen of drinking one cup of tea immediately after waking up.

Being skeptical, I took detailed pictures of my body before using Cho Yung Tea, and I took accurate measurements and noted exactly how much I weighed before starting to use the product.

Shockingly, after using Cho Yung Tea for only two weeks, I could already see a noticeable difference in the mirror. I checked the scale to make sure I wasn't just imagining things, and I found that I had lost a large amount of weight. In fact, I had already lost all the weight I wanted to, and it had only been two weeks!

I decided to stick with it for the rest of the month. The benefits were mind blowing. Not only did it help me lose a huge amount of weight, but I felt better than I ever have. My body just seemed to naturally be performing at a higher level than before using Cho Yung Tea.

Common Cold Cures in Your Kitchen

!±8± Common Cold Cures in Your Kitchen

Many people do not realize that in their kitchen are natural remedies to the common cold. We take for granted the things that are available right in our own back yard. Over the centuries people have used minerals and plants for medicinal cures. When the Europeans came over to the United States, they brought with them seeds and plants. They also learned from the Native Americans which plants were used for different cures. A typical wife and mother was knowledgeable about herbs and how to use them for medicinal purposes. Some of modern day medicine originated from plants and herbs. As people moved toward a more industrial society and into the cities, they became more dependent on pharmaceutical companies to supply their medicine.

People have become unlearned about these old time remedies. These natural remedies still work and are available in your kitchen to this day. Salt, Apple Cider Vinegar, Onion, garlic, anise, ginger, honey are a few of the items in your cabinets that can cure the common cold.

At the first sign of a sore throat, gargle with warm salt water. Salt has been used for centuries to remove bacteria from meat. Farmers soak their meat in salt water to remove bacteria. I have used this remedy with my family for years. Place a teaspoon of salt in an 8 oz glass of warm water. Gargle the entire glass; this will remove mucus and dilate the capillaries increasing the blood flow. Do this several times a day and you will feel much better.

Apple cider Vinegar is good for so many things. Colds, flu, headaches, digestion problems, insect bites and so much more. When you are coming down with a cold, your bodies alkaline level is unstable. Drinking apple cider vinegar will rebalance the acid level. Add apple cider vinegar to a glass of water, making it as strong as you can tolerate. Gargle and swallow this mixture twice a day. Apple cider vinegar kills the streptococcus virus as well as adds extra potassium to your body as well. When using apple cider vinegar always rinse your mouth out after drinking to rinse extra acid off the enamel of your teeth.

Ginger contains nearly a dozen antiviral compounds and is a great cold remedy. First you must peel the skin from a ginger root. Grate fresh ginger into a cup of hot water. Seep for 10 minutes and add honey to taste. The tea will give your throat a tingly sensation.

Onion and garlic are from the same family and both contain antiviral compounds. Seep a sliced onion over night in honey. Take this mixture at intervals, like cough medicine. By eating onions and garlic you are adding these antiviral foods to your diet, which help fight the common cold.

Anise is an expectorant to get rid of phlegm and also has antiviral compounds. Take one or two teaspoons of crushed aniseed and place them in hot water to seep for 10 -15 minutes. Anise is used to make Indian Chai tea as well. Drink this tea several times a day.

Honey is an antibacterial. Using honey with different herbs helps to fight bacterial infections that are sometimes second infections caused by the common cold. As you have read already, when making teas you can add honey to help the efficiency of the tea. Also adding it to other herbs to make syrup is beneficial. Either way, honey is definitely a yummy way to help cure the cold.

Lemon, like apple cider vinegar, is high in acid and will balance your alkaline levels in your body. It will also cut through mucus acting as an expectorant. You can mix lemon to any herbal tea or add it to water to drink.

Thyme is also used as an antibacterial.Mixing thyme leaves in hot water and seeping for 10 - 15 minutes makes an antibacterial tea. Even most herbalist forget the benefits of thyme as it is not commonly mentioned as a antibacterial herb.

Oregano is common known as marjoram has high thymol content. The fascinating thing about oregano is that fights bacterium, viruses, fungi and yeast. Using 1 - 2 teaspoons of oregano leaves in hot water and seeping for 15 minutes several times a day will help you fight the common cold.

Sage was one of the four sacred plants of the Native American. Sage helps with inflammation and irritations of the throat. If you mix sage with apple cider vinegar you have a powerful cold cure.

Making rosemary tea will help with bronchial issues. Rosemary helps break up phlegm. Giving you relief from congestion. Add 1 -2 teaspoons in hot water and let seep for 10 - 15 minutes.

Cinnamon is a natural germicide. Adding cinnamon to any herbal cold tea can enhance its medicinal purpose. By adding a ¼ teaspoon to honey and taking as a cough syrup will also help alleviate cold symptoms.

These are just a few natural remedies for the common cold and cold like symptoms. I know there are times when you just don't feel like getting out to pick up an over the counter cold medication. You may already have these items in your cupboard and they work just as efficiently. The best cure for the common cold prevention. Remember to always wash your hands. Choose a healthy diet and make sure you are including foods with lots of vitamins and minerals. No virus or bacteria can live in a healthy environment. Remember to always eat healthy and live healthy.

Diarrhea Types and How to Treat Them Without Drugs

!±8± Diarrhea Types and How to Treat Them Without Drugs

How you classify diarrhea types depends upon how general or specific you want to be in your classification. At its most general, diarrhea can be either acute (short term) or chronic (long term). Examples of acute diarrhea are those caused by an infection or by a prescription or non-prescription medicine such as an antibiotic.

Chronic diarrhea lasts for at least a month to be diagnosed as such, and can possibly last for several months. Acute diarrhea often needs no treatment, although there are some natural treatments that make you more comfortable and even eliminate the diarrhea altogether. A cup of black tea can not only taste nice and refreshing, but also help cure your diarrhea due to the astringent effect of the tannic acid it contains.

Chronic diarrhea, on the other hand, needs treatment, although many of the mainstream medical prescription treatments given deal only with the symptoms, and not the underlying cause. That's like mending a leaking faucet by reducing the water pressure rather than replacing the washer. It's going to happen again. The trouble is that reducing the water pressure can stop other appliances from working properly, and that's what many prescriptive drugs do: they try to fix the symptoms, BUT can cause other problems with your body.

Natural treatments have no harmful side effects, and they also treat the underlying problem AND its symptoms. However, back to classifying diarrhea types and how they can be treated without drugs.

Rather than use the acute/chronic grading for diarrhea types it is probably better to classify them according what drives the diarrhea. What causes it? Scientific terms such as 'osmotic' and 'secretory' are often used to classify diarrhea, but these are meaningless to most people and fail to adequately cover all of the causes. It is preferable by far to classify the condition according to the causes, which can then give guidelines as to how they can be treated.

The term 'secretory diarrhea', for example, can have several causes, and different treatments. Here is how the diarrhea types can be classified according to cause:

1. Diarrhea Caused by Toxins The toxins in question can come from the food you eat, whether plant or animal in origin, such as heavy metals in the soil (e.g. chromium, lead, tin, mercury), pesticides used on vegetables, antibiotics fed to cattle, and also from bacteria and viruses. It is not the bacteria that are harmful, but the toxins they produce in their metabolism.

Not only that, but bacteria and their toxins stimulate your immune system into an inflammatory reaction. This inflammation of the mucosal lining of your intestine irritates it into rapid activity, forcing the contents and nutrients of your food through the intestinal tract unabsorbed.

2. Diarrhea Types Caused by Stress Stress and anxiety can lead to diarrhea by stimulating the muscles of the intestine, and increasing the rate of peristaltic motion that pushes the chyme (the product emitted from the food processor known as your stomach) through your intestinal tract: just as the previously discussed inflammatory reaction does. The faster this is moved then the less time the intestine has to absorb the nutrient-rich liquid.

You not only end up passing that liquid through the anus as diarrhea, but you also lose the nutritional value. Of all the diarrhea types, this is the most difficult to diagnose, although there are several natural treatments for stress.

3. Diarrhea Caused by Your Diet If you suffer from a lactose or gluten intolerance, the immune system of your body reacts to the presence of these substances in your body. Lactose is present in milk, and gluten in wheat. In fact an intolerance to gluten has a name: celiac disease, which causes a severe allergic reaction by your immune system if it is detected in your gastrointestinal system. The cure here is simple: don't eat wheat products, or in the case of lactose intolerance, don't consume dairy products.

A lack of niacin (vitamin B3), vitamin D and other nutrients such as essential fatty acids can not only cause diarrhea, but are also a result of it. The water soluble vitamins and minerals remain in the watery stool and are passed through the body unabsorbed. If you suffer from any form of diarrhea you will require either an improved diet containing these lost nutrients, or a supplement.

Strangely, caffeine can also cause diarrhea in some, and yet the tannin in strong black tea is a good natural remedy for it. So, it shows that a little of something that you like can be of benefit, but it can all depend on the cause of the diarrhea.

4. Diarrhea Caused by Physical Trauma and Functional Disorders Physical problems and disorders within your intestinal tract is another diarrhea type. Stomach surgery and gall bladder removal, for example, can cause the condition, as can severe blows to the abdomen.

If you are suffering from chronic bouts of diarrhea and are not sure of the cause, I recommend that you learn more about the term Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which is a combination of symptoms that include reoccurring diarrhea. Often, not one particular cause can be attributed to IBS as it is a complex situation including several factors. For some, it is a condition that can vary between diarrhea and constipation. However, not all cases experience constipation. IBS does not cause symptoms, but is a term given to a set of symptoms that can include chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, headaches and nausea. The label of IBS is not that important but the natural process of healing the digestive tract is what matters.

There are several diarrhea types, and each can be treated naturally without the need for mainstream prescriptive medicines that deal only with the symptom. Natural treatments go right to the root cause and make sure that your condition does not recur.
